Weirdly, canning a product proves a successful marketing campaign.

The $599 Touchpad was reduced to $100 as HP withdraw it from the markt . Yesterday the radio news reported that the device sold out around the country in around 40 minutes. HP have even launched a website (http://www.hp.com/united-states/webos/us/en/tablet/touchpad-availability.html) so customers can make sure orders are fulfilled.

There are two interesting claims as to the cause of the sellout. On the homepage of the Touchpad site they say:

Due to the significant price reduction, we experienced overwhelming demand for the product and are temporarily out of inventory.

Then, on the subsequent page HP go on to state

We have received unprecedented orders as a result of the tremendous discount offered. This is clear confirmation to HP there is huge interest in building a webOS community.

Is it price? Or is it the webOS community? Not sure it can be both.

I find this fascinating, plus, I quite like HP as a brand so I will continue to post interesting tidbits as I come across them.
